Deborah Sciales is a San Francisco designer who sewed her first dress when she was twelve. Her Albanian ancestors emigrated to Sicily in the 16th century, bringing their rich traditions, colorful textiles, and elaborate costumes to a small village near Palermo. These traditions were handed down from mother to daughter through generations until Deborah’s mother passed them on to her.
Deborah studied International Relations and Art History at Mount Vernon College in Washington, DC. Deborah was an award-winning fine artist, craft designer and a graphic designer before starting DAS in 1997. With the collaboration of talented designers, expert sewers and fine jewelers DAS has grown into a nation-wide accessories business.
Utilizing the finest brocade silks, Spanish tapestry cloth, metal, Czech glass, Austrian crystal, and semi-precious stones, DAS designers engineer handbags that are both works of art and utilitarian.
