Denise began working with metals on a large scale in 1991, creating cast bronze and iron sculpture. Shortly thereafter, she received her BA in Ancient Arts. An interest in global culture led her to travel (and live) throughout Europe, Latin America, and China. Denise became a student of the spiritual, creative aspects of jewelry and began to express these concepts as a functional art form.
As an apprentice to a master goldsmith of Hamburg, Germany, she explored the techniques of small-scale metalworking. This detailed, hands-on approach allowed the cultivation of a signature style – the foundation of her wearable works of art. Denise Disharoon’s line of organic jewelry emerged from her unique ability to fuse elemental and architectural forms.
