Kristina Kada – Satomi Studio

Inspired by the many shapes found in everyday objects, botanical forms, and architecture, Kristina uses simple elements in repetition to build up richly textured patterns and interesting forms. By using traditional jewelry techniques, steel stakes, and a hydraulic press, she creates hollow forms as well as repetitious shapes.
Kristina hand-weaves the silk cording that is used in her pieces. Using a wooden, circular loom, hand-dyed silk threads are wrapped around weighted spools and braided in a variety of ways to create a woven cord. This technique is a traditional Japanese craft called Kumihimo.
