Jargon What is Enamel?
Enameling is the fusing of powdered glass to metal. There are many
techniques for applying the coating, but the final process always includes firing the coated metal to melt the powder, creating the enamel finish.
Upon firing, the enamel coating can be opaque or translucent, shiny or matte, depending upon the techniques an artisan uses. Enamel can take on many
different colors based on the minerals that are added to the powdered glass. Many ancient civilizations used enameling in their artwork and
jewelry. Today, enameling continues to be an important technique used by jewelry artisans to add vibrant color and
interesting finishes to their jewelry designs.

"My passion is to design wearable art that can not only be enjoyed by the owner but also by those who view it.
My love of metal and all things distressed began at a very early age. When I began making jewelry about 12 years ago it was natural to me to distress the surfaces. Not long after, I felt that the use of traditional patinas and finishes were very limiting and sought out new ways to apply color to metal. That is when I discovered vitreous enamels in a workshop in New York. Always one to experiment, I started incorporating unusual materials such as sand and mica powders into the enamels as well as mixing enamels together to create different effects.
I am fascinated by architecture and architectural details which compels me to travel whenever possible. My Rustic Enamel Series is inspired by architectural elements as well as vintage textiles. I reside in New York City which I find to be a constant
source of inspiration."
